now, matt keller is live in fremont where a dui checkpoint is currently on the way. >> this checkpoint has been going on here on fremont boulevard for about an hour. officers are speaking to each driver and handing them a pamphlet. they say there's been nine dui arrests. they rarely make a drunk driving arrests at their dui checkpoints but they write a lot of tickets. we watched as the officer stopped a car with someone in the back with a baby on their lap. one man's story was a little more complicated but it still ended with him getting a ticket. >> what did they say they're writing you a ticket for? >> for not having my passport. >> your passport. >> so do you have your license? >> yeah, i have a international license but they said i can't carry it without a passport. >> so they said they're going to give you a ticket? >> they already gave me one. >> reporter: the chp are starting with maximum enforcement patrols patrols tomorrow night with checkpoints. this checkpoint in fremont is scheduled to stay open until 1:00 in the morning. and so far there have been no dui arrests

this break is likely due to old pipes. >>> and in fremont, car owners dealt with the damage caused by a large tree that fell during last night's rain. the tree fell around 7:00 at piralta boulevard. no one was injured but one of the cars is totalled and the other is seriously damaged. >>> emergency repairs are underway at a damaged levy in east palo alto tonight, wurngs after flooding forced dozens of people from their homes last night. as john fowler reports, residents say the repairs are long overdue. >> state sandbag crews arrived about 6:30 tonight in east palo alto. they planned to work on the san francisco creek levy during the night. the creek much calmer now than we show youd last night. engineers worked fast to get this fix going on christmas eve. not fast enough for residents who have lived through repeated flooding here. >> i'm a little worried because it's supposed to, i think, rain again tomorrow. >> homeowners spent today clearing sxhud debris from last night's if you had. >> it frees here to there, it was like a big lake, a lot of trees going down, a lot of garbage. >>

fremont, around the livermore region and towards the santa cruz mountains, around highway 17, showing you activities towards scott valley. around fairfield and parts solano county, the darker shades of green, persistent rainfall and approaching lake counties still some rainfall getting its act together right now. that will be increasing dramatical hi as we do head into the overnight hours. flash flood watch posted for the north bay, san francisco, the san mateo coastline and towards santa cruz county, but we'll have the water piling up around the rest of the region because is basically covering the entire bay area. a wind advisory in place and you probably noticed the winds increasing. winds apprimately of gusting to 50 miles per hour and with that will increase the possibilities of power outages. look at this moisture tap extending down to the pacific. this is basically what we have been calling an atmosphere river directed towards north and central california. here is the next strong storm. this does move in first thick sunday morning. heaviest will be between 4:00 a.m. 10:00. with

north and you will see showers up around scott creek road and fremont that's moving off to the east so you're going to start to dry out for a little bit. you move up toward liver mother and sonol and showers are moving in a northeasterly direction. so the showers working their way out. santa cruz up in the hills here you're getting some moderate rain. just one of those nights a lot going on. the showers are going to die down and when they do it's going to get cold. it got warm when the clouds came in and the clouds this morning and they never allowed the temperatures to warm up. some of the temperatures were in the 40s. 46 in napa. 48 in concord. overnight lows are going to be down into the maybe upper 30s and lots of low 40s. there's going to be lots of valley fog in the morning. there might even be a few sprinkles. there'll be a -- a lot of clouds. there'll be some breaks, some sun, you will need an umbrella then you don't. but today it was like you needed an umbrella all day. clearing in the afternoon. widely scattered showers. the extended forecast calls for a drying out. there'
